About the Extended Day Program
The Extended Day Program is a service offering care after regular school hours (3 to 6 p.m.) to all Lower School students for a fee. For the early childhood and kindergarten students, the Extended Day Program takes place in designated classrooms. In 1st through 5th grades, the Extended Day Program takes place primarily in the multi-purpose room on the lower level of the Lower School building. Both younger and older children have opportunities to play inside and outside. For the older children, there is time and space allotted for the completion of homework, as well as space for reading, quiet games, rest and relaxation.
WHAT GRADES AND AGES DOES THE AFTER-SCHOOL EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM SERVE?
The program serves students in the preschool program through fourth grade.
WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES ARE PART OF THE REGULAR AFTER-SCHOOL EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM?
The Extended Day Program is an extension of the experience we cultivate daily within our lower school program. Through this program, children continue to play and learn through a variety of hands-on experiences. Whether it is through arts and crafts, games, music or sports (when age appropriate), the AFS Extended Day Program provides safe and enjoyable care for AFS students 3 years old through fourth grade.
Activities for the program vary by day and age. Outdoor play is an important component of the program for children of all ages, and may include free play or organized activities and field games like soccer and basketball. A rotation of art activities, games, library and reading time and fun events like a regular Friday dance party round out the program.
