AFS Names New Varsity Girls’ Soccer Head Coach

Abington Friends School is pleased to welcome Jason “Jay” Scheets to the AFS community as the new head coach of the Varsity Girls’ Soccer program.

An experienced youth soccer coach and trainer at the club level, Jay holds an Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association (EPYSA) “D” coaching license and recently led teams for PA Rush, Hibernian Shock and Lenape Valley Soccer Club.

His PA Rush Nero ’98 squad claimed the 2014 EPYSA Challenge Cup girls’ championship.

A graduate of Central Bucks East High School and Bucks County Community College, Jay brings strong soccer playing and coaching experience to the position. AFS Director of Athletics Jeff Bond said, “We are very excited to add Coach Jay Scheets to the AFS staff. He impressed the search committee with his passion for the game of soccer and his vision for how to enhance the development of girls soccer players and teams at AFS. His enthusiasm for and commitment to teaching young people how to be their best selves on and off the soccer field will help the AFS Girls’ Soccer program to continue to grow.”

On Wednesday, July 6, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Coach Scheets will be at AFS to meet with any interested players and to run an abbreviated training session. He will hold more in-depth meetings with players and families in August. Coach Sheets can be reached over the summer at Jason.Scheets@gmail.com.

Preseason training for AFS fall athletics, including Varsity Girls’ Soccer, will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 22.

Prior to the start of fall preseason, AFS Athletics is offering summer training sessions for both girls and boys soccer players on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m., starting July 6. Former AFS Boys’ Soccer assistant coach Toby Abdul-Razaq will direct the summer training.
