Back-to-Back Tennis Victories for Girls Tennis

Our Upper School girls’ tennis teams have been on the upswing, with both the varsity and junior varsity teams stringing together winning streaks, according to Athletics Director Jeff Bond.

The varsity girls’ tennis team, coached by Cornell McLeod and Sara Lee Cardonick, is riding a victorious two-match streak after dispatching Perkiomen School, 4-1, last Friday and Friends Schools League rival Westtown by the same score on Tuesday.

Against Westtown, co-captain Emily Fishman ’18 rallied from a first set loss at No. 3 singles to prevail in the decisive third set. It also took three sets for AFS’s No. 1 doubles pair of Taylor Plenty ’18 and Jordan Smith ’20 to defeat their Westtown opponents.

Amira Parker ’20 at No. 2 singles and co-captain Kiryna Cotroneo ’18 and Jamie Fromm ’18 at No. 2 doubles needed just two sets to earn their victories, sealing the match for the Kangaroos and lifting the team’s overall record to 4-4 on the season.

Emma Giddings ’17, holds the No. 1 singles position on the varsity squad, with Rosie Rabin ’19 and Sophie Waldman ’18 rounding out the roster.

AFS’s junior varsity girls’ tennis team swept Westtown, 5-0, on Tuesday, recording their third win in their past four matches and improving their season record to 4-3. Against Westtown, Lily Silverman ’19, Lily Ehsani ’19, and Ya-Ya Chen ’19 earned victories in singles play while Tori Sousa ’19, Christina Juste ’18, Jubilee Dugdale ’18, and Seri Fleming ’18 prevailed in doubles action.
