Senior point guard Jade Young joined an elite group on Wednesday, signing a National Letter of Intent and will play women’s basketball at the University of Hartford next year.

AFS Athletics Director Jeff Bond told a crowd gathered for the signing ceremony in the Faulkner Reading Room that only 1 percent of the 450,000 high school girls basketball players go on to Division I college teams. Jade was awarded a full scholarship to Hartford for one year in exchange for signing with the Hawks. The scholarship is up for renewal every year.

About 40 family members, friends, coaches and faculty members were on hand to witness the ceremony as Jade’s mother, Tanalisa Fuller, sat by her side.  Jade read a statement of gratitude, thanking her family, trainers, coaches, her mother and God, for supporting her this far on her journey.
