AFS Track Team Sets New School Records at a Torrid Pace

Our track & field team is continuing to set new school records at a torrid pace. The student-athletes have broken 10 school records so far this year.

Freshman Paige Mott became the latest record-breaker, in a meet at Westtown School. She set a new AFS record in girls’ discus with a throw of 77 feet, 10 inches.

Earlier this season, Gabby Ford had set a new school record in the discus throw, which has now been surpassed by Paige.

Earlier in April, students set four more AFS records at the Neshaminy Relays.

“I have been around the sport of Track & Field for more than 30 years as an athlete, coach, and an avid fan of the sport and have never seen a team rewriting the record books at a pace anywhere close to what our kids have been doing,” said Head Coach Kyle Rankin.

Here are key results from the Neshaminy Relays:

The boys’ Distance Medley Relay squad of Rory Erlich, Kai Haynes, Corbin Outten and Jack Balick placed second, with a time of 11:46.59, shattering the AFS school record by 36 seconds. Corbin also placed second in the 400 meters in 51.75, to set a school record. Sydney Smith set an AFS record in the 400 meter hurdles. Rory and Chase Balick placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 3,200 meters.

The girls’ 4 x 400 meter relay team of Sierra Granata, Paige Osborne, Jordan Smith and Madison Tillmann raced to a second place finish in 4:31.18. Paige set an AFS record in the 400 meter hurdles.

The other  records set so far this year are: Girls’ javelin, Hannah Collings; Girls’ 3,200 meters, Madison Tillmann; Girls’ 55 meter hurdles, Cara Tressider; and Boys’ sprint medley relay, Corbin Outten, Jack Balick, Sam Shally, Sydney Smith.
