AFS Boys’ Basketball Coach Steve Chadwin received the Charles Dinsmore Award on March 12 from the Coaches vs. Cancer organization. Coach C was chosen for the award by the Philly Division 1 college basketball coaches. The Dinsmore award is granted annually to a survivor who has a love of life and basketball and has shown commitment to the fight against cancer.
He was honored at the organization’s Tourney Tip-Off Breakfast at The Palestra on the Penn campus. The breakfast is a benefit for the American Cancer Society
Coach C was one of five local coaches honored last spring at the inaugural Coaches vs. Cancer High School Coaching Legends Dinner.
Coach C has logged 641 wins over 39 seasons at the helm of the boys’ basketball team at AFS and has helped innumerable students grow both as good basketball players and good students.
“Thirty-nine years is a long, long time. We’ve had plenty of success in developing good student-athletes. Basketball’s just the hook,” he said at the beginning of this latest season.
