“Inviting a Holocaust Survivor was essential for me, and important to AFS. We aren’t taught many in-depth lessons about the Holocaust, so this allowed every student to become more aware of what actually happened. In addition, we may be the final generation to be able hear a Survivor speak, which is crucial to understanding the true events and horrific detail. Personally, this assembly allowed me to connect to my religion and culture in a way that felt sacred. Mr. Tuck was a fantastic speaker and person, and he made sure his life lessons stuck with not just me, but the students in attendance as well. My hope is that after I graduate, the Jewish population at AFS can continue to thrive, and perhaps Mr. Tuck, or another speaker will be invited back to AFS next year.” |
