Kangaroo Athletics Roundup — Updates on Tennis, Cross Country and Soccer

The junior varsity girls’ tennis team wore pink, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, in their match against Academy of the New Church on Oct. 5. The gesture held special meaning to the team because their assistant coach, Carole Kron, is a breast cancer survivor. The Kangaroos dispatched the Lions, 5-0, to improve to 6-4 on the season, according to Athletics Director Jeff Bond.

Meanwhile, Middle School cross-country runners Noah Vinogradov ’21 and Dexter Zapf ’22 recorded impressive individual accomplishments in late September at the Newtown Friends School Invitational, with top-level finishes out of a field of 115. Noah’s 13:10 placed him 2nd overall while Dexter’s 14:17 was good for 11th place.

Sierra Granata ’18 earned her third hat trick of the season in late September in the varsity girls’ soccer team’s 5-3 win over Calvary Christian Academy. Earlier this season, Sierra tallied three goals in team victories over Perkiomen School and Bishop McDevitt. She leads the team in goals, with 12 on the season.

The PA Prep Live website on October 4 posted an article about the resurgence of the AFS girls’ soccer team, helped by a new culture under first-year Head Coach Jay Scheets. The team has 22 players listed on its roster and is 5-5 on the season.
