In December, a group of Upper School Chamber Singers and “Secrets of Light” ExTerm students traveled to Hopkins Rehabilitation Center in Wyncote. The singers performed selections from their recent winter concert and joined residents for a sing-along and lunch. The ExTerm students also visited the residents for whom they created colorful window installations to lift spirits and ease stress. One student said to a resident, “Hopefully, when it is raining, you’ll still see the sun shining in my artwork.”

This experience was made possible through an ongoing partnership with Mending Spirit, a non-profit founded by D’vorah Horn-Greenberg P’16, P’09, P’06. Mending Spirit brings the arts to others for the purpose of joy and healing. When asked how she came to do this work, D’vorah said, “I tried to sense what it might be like for the healthcare worker, a medical professional, a patient, or family member and to be in this environment. I imagined the desire, but not time to go to the healing garden, or the limited view a patient has from the bed. I remembered the difficult walk down the long halls to comfort a loved one, or to work day in and day out with those who were ill, or perhaps to register for a medical procedure. ”
