With a new team banner, two new coaches and a record 22 student-athletes, AFS’s varsity Swimming team has entered a new era, according to Athletic Director Jeff Bond.

Now in its 10th year as a varsity-level sport, the swimming team enters the 2016-17 season with the largest roster in the program’s history. The team is anchored by seven returnees, and seniors Evan Steinberg and Rebecca Macey lead as four-year participants. Evan and sophomore Michelle Lebed are hoping to match their top-three placements, which they notched last year in the Friends Schools League’s Swimming Championships.

Meanwhile, Mary Bergstrom and Amy Jackson have taken over the reins as varsity co-head coaches. Both bring extensive swimming experience to their positions. The ’Roos will begin interscholastic competition next week with meets at Perkiomen School and Barrack Academy. Follow all the action by following @AFS_Roos on Twitter.
