Many of AFS’s Middle School and Junior Varsity teams had one or more contests this past week, and what follows is a brief glimpse at some of their results.

Junior Varsity Boys Soccer rides a two-game winning streak into a matchup today with Friends Select. On Tuesday, the Roos toppled Academy of the New Church 3-2 behind goals from Pharaoh Lewis ‘27, Nate Kushin ‘28 and a Lion own goal. Eli Belotserkovskiy ‘27 recorded 6 saves in the net. Last Friday, the squad upended Church Farm School 2-1 as Jahz Gray ‘28 notched both goals for the Roos with strong offensive support in the midfield from Xavier DiClemente-Hayes ‘28.

On Thursday, Junior Varsity Fall Tennis dropped a 4-1 result to Friends Select. Rachel Kraus ‘28 earned AFS’s team point with her 6-3, 6-1 victory at #2 singles. Lauren Washington ‘26 & Amaya Manigault ‘26 narrowly fell in their #1 doubles match in a third set tiebreaker.

Middle School Girls Soccer opened their season with a win on Wednesday, defeating Barrack Academy 3-1. Olivia I. ‘30 scored twice and Caroline T. ‘29 added another goal to pace the Roos’ offensive attack. Meadow C. ‘29 and Sidra S. ‘30 provided stiff defense in front of goalkeeper Maddy M. ‘29 who turned aside 6 Barrack shots in the win.

Middle School Boys Soccer dropped their season opener on Monday before rebounding to a 2-2 tie versus AIM Academy on Wednesday. Matteo A. ‘30 got the Roos on the board when he tucked home up an Emmett K. ‘29 blast that the AIM goalkeeper initially saved. Ziyon G ‘31 chipped home the tying goal late in the game before staunch defense from Salah J. ‘29 and 2nd half goalkeeper Charlie R. ‘30 kept the teams level at the final whistle.

Middle School Cross-Country began their racing season with a meet versus Shipley School on Wednesday. Though the Roos fell to the Gators 18-41 (low score wins); AFS sent 28 runners across the finish line of the 2-mile course around AFS’s campus.
